INTRODUCTION
GIS BRASIL 2003 - 9th Geotechnologies Tradeshow was held in São Paulo, SP, Brasil, from August 19 to 22, turning São Paulo into the Latin America's Center of GIS, and showed the growth of the field, according to the Executive Director of the event, Eneida Ribeiro.
In this edition, tracks focused in Cities Management had a great search, as this is one of the classical uses of GIS as a solution for decision-makers. Also caused great interest the Cases related to GIS at Web, due to the facility of accessing data, the possibility of crossing information and, mostly, the agility of consulting in a more friendly way for the users.
During five days, around 4000 people, including participants and instructors of Courses and Congress, exhibitors and visitors of the Geotechnologies Fair experienced cases on the most varied application areas, tracks in the areas of Utilities, Cities Management, Environment and Geo at Web, panels of the Scientific Talent Exhibition and Courses.
Businessmen and users from all over the country came to GIS BRASIL to discuss, trade experiences, and specially verify the results that Geotechnologies can bring in their diverse application areas.
GEOTECHNOLOGIES TRADE SHOW
Besides the activities with a technical feature, visitors of GIS BRASIL 2003 had free access to the Geotechnologies Trade Show, with 50 booths of exhibitors who represent the technological and economical power of the market. The event was sponsored by the companies: Gempi/ESRI, Infostrata, Geoambiente, ISEGI and Space Imaging.
COURSES
Traditionally, the Courses offered by GIS BRASIL are attractive by their quality and the experience of the instructors. There were 11 courses that gathered almost 400 participants. With an informative character, the courses in GIS BRASIL, that in its 9th edition counts more than 5000 professionals trained, are considered essential for the technological update of the users.
This year, the courses were divided in three categories: Fundamentals, Complementary Techniques and Applications of the Technology, bringing to the participants concepts in the areas of GIS, GPS, Remote Sensing, Data Bank Structuring and Modeling, Spatial Decision, GIS Data Conversion, Spatial Analysis of Geographical Data, Technologies Integration and also training in software.
SCIENTIFIC TALENT EXHIBITION
The Scientific Talent Exhibition, only national initiative on this area, gave to Academic students the opportunity to show their papers to the market. More than 30 papers were presented in the form of panels, including the display of practical results, competing for the "GIS BRASIL Incentive Prize - from Research to Practice". First and second prizes included a certificate, a cash prize and a number of products, such as software and equipment, offered by the sponsors.
